About Unbidden
“To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony.”
~William Henry Channing
I find daily life, at times, to be a collection of experiences I usually do not seek out. This, in part, is where this Web site was born. For a number of years I have kept a little note book where I jotted down thoughts, ideas, experiences and other sundry things. I loosely titled this note book “Unbidden Thoughts”. To me something unbidden is a gift or a surprise or a serendipitous moment you never expected to see. So, I’ve created an online journal of these things. I have tried to keep a private journal before, but I lost interest. It wasn’t until I started to share these things with others did I find joy in writing about myself and what I see and do.
I’ve been keeping an online journal or blog, in various forms and frequency, since September or 2000.
It started off with a self titled journal which I updated and coded by hand. Then I moved to an automated content management system called GreyMatter and currently use WordPress. I’ve written at length and I’ve also just posted pictures. And as for the frequency of my updates? Well that is a different matter.
