This is a work-in-progress portraits series of the People of Dos-Palais, Haiti.
The moment I encountered the people of Dos Palais many of my assumptions and stereotypes melted away about what it is like to live in the poorest country in the western hemisphere. I was also paralyzed by the fact that any assistance and help I could give them would amount to a grain of sand dropped in to an ocean of complexity. But one thing I knew for sure was they, like me, are children of God. My goal then was to photograph these people in such a way that would strip away the stereotypical backgrounds of poverty, destitution, and disease so we might see them as something more. To see them as humans first and not a just a problem that needs to be solved.
